Homemade Meat Sauce

Homemade Meat Sauce Ingredients (8 Servings)

  • 2 lb ground round
  • ½ lb ground pork
  • 3 jumbo tomatoes, diced
  • 56 oz. Cento crushed tomatoes
  • 3 oz. Cento tomato paste
  • ½ jumbo yellow onion, peeled and diced
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tsp. basil
  • 2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 2 tsp. white sugar
  • sea salt, to taste


Sauté the ground round and ground pork on the stovetop in a large skillet on medium-high heat until browned, seasoning with salt and pepper while sautéing.

Drain excess fat on a plate with paper towels and then return it to the skillet.

Stir in the onion and garlic, and continue to cook for about a minute.

Add the basil, oregano, red pepper and red wine.

Cook for 1 minute before adding the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, salt, and pepper.

Continue Stirring for 5 minutes.

Transfer the mixture from the skillet to a slow cooker on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.

Serve on top of fresh pasta.
