Candied Bacon Mac and Cheese

Candied Bacon Mac and Cheese Ingredients (6 Servings)

  • 10 slices bacon
  • 1/2 cup whiskey of your choice
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 lb. macaroni pasta
  • 3 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 cups sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices sharp provolone cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste


  • Preheat the oven to 400 F.
  • Line a baking sheet with foil and coat it with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a small saucepan, bring the 1/2 cup of whiskey to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to medium, and simmer until it’s reduced to 2 tablespoons.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cayenne.
  • Dip the bacon into the whiskey and then press each side into the brown sugar mixture until it is coated.
  • Place the coated bacon slices on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake the bacon for 7 minutes, then flip it and bake for another 5 minutes.
  • Remove the bacon and place it on a plate coated with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Let the bacon cool completely before chopping it up and setting it aside.
  • In a large pot, bring water to a boil.
  • Add the macaroni and cook until it is al dente.
  • Drain the pasta and set it aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat.
  • Add the flour and whisk to combine.
  • Whisk in 1 cup of milk until it is well combined.
  • Add the remaining milk.
  • Whisk frequently until the sauce thickens and begins to bubble.
  • Add the cheeses and whisk until they melt and the sauce is smooth. Add paprika, salt, and pepper to taste.
  • Pour the sauce over the pasta and top with the bacon.
  • Stir until the pasta is completely coated in sauce.
  • Add more salt and pepper if desired.
