Prep Time 20 Min | Cook Time 25 Min | Serves 8
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 yellow onion, halved and thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 7 oz sliced provolone cheese
- 3 lb Philly steak, chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 8 hoagie rolls
- 6 tbsp softened butter
Directions
- Start by sautéing the thinly sliced onion and bell peppers in vegetable oil over medium-low heat. When they are nice and tender, transfer them to a large dish and set aside.
- Add additional oil to the pan and place over medium-high heat. Add half of the chopped steak and cook, stirring frequently, for about 4-5 minutes. Season with salt, garlic powder, and pepper while cooking.
- Transfer the first batch of steak to the dish with the onions and peppers, leaving the juice behind in the pan. Add additional oil if needed and repeat the process with the remaining steak and seasoning.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F. Split open the hoagie rolls and coat them with the softened butter. Place the rolls on a baking sheet and bake for 3-5 minutes until they are lightly toasted.
- Drain all of the juices from the pan and return it to the stove. Add back all of the steak, onions, and peppers. Place 7 provolone slices over the mixture in a circle and cover the pan. Cook on medium heat for about 4-5 minutes until the cheese melts. Use tongs to transfer the mixture to the toasted sandwich rolls and serve warm.
- Enjoy!
