Turn this week’s ground round and American cheese specials into a comforting Italian-style dinner. This cheese-stuffed meatloaf is seasoned with garlic, Parmesan and herbs, then baked with marinara for an easy family meal.
Prep Time 15 Min | Cook Time 50-60 Min | Serves 6
Ingredients
- 2 lbs USDA Choice Angus ground round
- 6–8 slices American cheese
- 2 large eggs
- ¾ cup Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ cup milk
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1½ cups marinara sauce, divided
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a baking dish or rimmed sheet pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground round, eggs, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, milk, garlic, parsley, oregano, basil, salt, pepper and ½ cup marinara. Mix just until combined.
- Place half of the meat mixture into the baking dish and shape into a loaf. Layer the American cheese down the center, leaving a border around the edges.
- Cover with the remaining meat mixture and seal the edges well so the cheese stays inside while baking.
- Spoon about ½ cup of the remaining marinara over the top.
- Bake until the center of the meatloaf reaches 160°F, about 50–60 minutes.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Warm the remaining marinara and spoon it over each slice.
